Exploring Helsinki's Top 5 Korean Restaurants for Authentic Korean Flavors

Exploring Helsinki's Top 5 Korean Restaurants for Authentic Korean Flavors

In recent years, the fascination with Korean culture, or "hallyu," has been on the rise in Finland. As evidence of this cultural shift, Helsinki has seen a surge in Korean restaurants. After trying out many of them and receiving recommendations from Korean friends, I'm thrilled to share my top five picks with you. These places offer genuinely authentic Korean flavors that will make your taste buds dance with joy.

1. Korean House

Address: Mariankatu 19, 00170 Helsinki*

Korean House was one of the first Korean restaurants in Helsinki and offers a range of traditional dishes. From the delicious Bibimbap to irresistible Korean fried chicken and comforting Kimchi soup, this restaurant's menu showcases the rich tapestry of Korean flavors. My personal favorites include their Korean fried chicken and Japchae. Prices are quite reasonable, ranging from 15 to 25€.

2. Manna Restaurant

Address: Merimiehenkatu 18, 00150 Helsinki

Manna Restaurant, run by Korean chefs, has only been around for two years but has quickly gained a reputation. It's a small restaurant, so it's a good idea to make a dinner reservation in advance. I highly recommend trying their Kimchi pancake (suitable for vegetarians) and various Bibimbap options.

3. Nabi Korean BBQ

If you're a fan of K-dramas, you've likely seen scenes of Koreans enjoying BBQ. Now, you can experience it in Helsinki.

While there are several Korean BBQ spots in the city, I recommend Nabi based on the endorsement of my Korean friend. Korean BBQ is all about grilling a variety of meats, often at your own table. At Nabi, you'll find a selection of meats such as beef, pork, and chicken, each marinated in distinct Korean flavors. These meats are typically served with an assortment of banchan, which are small side dishes like kimchi, pickled vegetables, and sauces that complement the barbecue. Prices range from 30 to 50€.

If you love BBQ but are on a tight budget, Kimchi BBQ Buffet in Espoo is the ideal destination. They offer an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ buffet with a wide variety of options, including sushi, hot dishes, and, of course, kimchi. On weekdays (Monday to Thursday), the dinner buffet is priced at just 25€.

5. Roll Rice

Address: Mannerheimintie 100, 00250 Helsinki

Roll Rice is a unique option that's open 24/7 and features a noodle station. Korea is famous for its diverse noodle dishes, and here you can try a range of popular Korean noodles. The experience is interactive; you choose the noodles, toppings, and cook them in a personal cooker, just like you've seen in Korean dramas.

Prices for a meal here start at a wallet-friendly 5€, making it an excellent choice for a late-night bite in Helsinki.
